What Does Sustainability Mean To Us?
Sustainability means meeting our current needs to live without compromising the capability of future generations to meet their needs. It's striking a balance between both. Why is this a challenge? We live above that and exploit mother earth, so future generations will not have enough to meet their needs. On top of that, we are leaving a mountain of plastic waste behind that is not biodegradable. How can we be better?
The best plastic is less plastic.
Sustainable Materials Are No Longer Optional
Humans and our pets are exposed to an increasing amount of chemicals in products, food, and synthetic toys. Most pet accessories are made from synthetic man-made materials like nylon, polyester, neoprene or synthetic rubber. All use a tremendous amount of fossil fuels in the production process. To save the planet and stay within the allowed target increase of 1.5 degrees by 2050 as per the Paris Agreement, we need to do more. Companies and brands have the responsibility to source more consciously and turn their backs on products made from fossil fuels. Nature has so much to offer.

Our Materials
Hooman's Friend is proud to launch our first collection into the market from a material that has been known to humanity for over 2000 years: Hemp. It is the basis of our eco-friendly pet products collection. Innovation doesn't always need to be world changing. We just need to focus on what Mother Nature has to offer.
Hemp is a natural alternative to man-made synthetics, like polyester and nylon, and a more sustainable option than conventional cotton. If we get used to replacing fossil fuel based materials with what nature has to offer, we are improving our chance of saving the planet. And that is the point, isn't it?

Hemp is especially hypoallergenic. We offer dog collars for sensitive skin to prevent hair loss and allergic reactions.
Our Packaging
We vouch for the packaging of our products. All materials used are 100% recycled, recyclable, compostable or reusable. All prints are made from soy-based ink instead of the usual fossil fuel inks. We will actively encourage our customers to recycle or reuse the packaging and provide clear instructions on proactively doing that.
Furthermore, the purchase of our packaging results in the plantation of a tree and we are a member of Ecologi to offset our carbon footprint by planting more trees.

A Path To Circular Economy
Plastic is made to last. Depending on the type of plastic, it takes 450 to 1000 years to degrade in a landfill. Can you imagine? Instead of a linear economy (make, use, dispose), we need a change to a circular economy in which we keep the resource in use for longer. The crucial thing is to extract maximum value and then recover and regenerate the materials at the end of the product life cycle (reduce, reuse, recycle).
Our natural dog products and our natural rope dog toy can be recycled and re-purposed or are biodegradable. The best plastic is no plastic.
